I’m excited to share an important milestone in my academic and professional journey. My PhD research is focused on understanding mindfulness attitudes as experienced by Black British women, particularly at the intersection of race, gender, and mental wellbeing. As part of my research I have conducted three quantitative studies which included participants from diverse population groups completing online questionnaires in my endeavour to construct, validate and test a novel Foundational Attitudes of Mindfulness Measure… “The FAMM”. My next study enters the qualitative phase where I am inviting Black British women to take part in confidential, one-2-one online interviews. The interviews will explore their lived experiences of mindfulness attitudes and practices — how it is understood, embodied and resonates within the context of everyday life, mental health and various factors of identity.
This research project aims to elevate voices that are often underrepresented in mental health conversations and to support the development of more culturally-responsive, accessible services for those facing additional barriers such as stigma, financial challenges and exclusion from mainstream support.
If you or someone you know might be interested, your participation would be invaluable — not only to my study but to the broader work of meeting the unmet needs of local and global diverse and marginalised communities. As an incentive, each participant will receive a £50 payment in recognition and appreciation of their time and contribution to the interview.
