I’m delighted to share that HABITS of London C.I.C. was presented with a generous donation from GIL Centre C.I.C.
The donation was awarded as part of GIL Centre’s annual tradition of supporting small enterprises that provide essential services to the local community. I was nominated to receive this gift by the lovely Shantel Thomas (left of the image below), who was an attendee at one of our mindfulness programmes.
At the heart of GIL Centre is Glenis, its founder and CEO (centred in the image below). Glenis organises these yearly fundraising themed events, and this particular occasion with the theme “Embracing Change” marked the 21st anniversary celebration of her enterprise — a black-tie dinner and dance held at a 5-star hotel in Croydon… apparently in keeping with the previous yearly events. Accompanied by my Early Years Programme director, Chane Atkins, we indulged in a three-course meal, music entertainment performed by live singers and DJs, raffles and a 360 photo booth — it was a truly memorable evening!
Glenis shared that after a phone conversation with me where we got to know each other, she felt drawn to support HABITS, recognising the surging need for mental health services within the Global Majority community. Her organisation resonates the work we do in the holistic support she also offers. Her thoughtfulness and generosity are deeply appreciated, not just by me but by those we serve through our mindfulness and psychotherapy programmes.
I look forward to attending this year’s event — another black tie event celebrating the theme “One Love” – where I have been asked to present how we spent the donation. If it has any semblance of last year, then it promises to be another fabulous evening. And really, who doesn’t enjoy an excuse to get glammed up… be elegantly fed… entertained, all the while celebrating in the rewarding work we do for our local community… wonderful!
