Aspire to Achieve marked the first mindfulness programme HABITS of London C.I.C. was funded to deliver to young people.
This funding opportunity was made possible through Lambeth Made, an associate commissioned by Lambeth Council to support young people aged 11–30 years old. Their work focuses on helping young people explore available business and career opportunities, develop essential skills and gain the confidence and knowledge needed to succeed.
The Aspire to Achieve programme was a specially designed 12-week course aimed at enhancing motivation for change, developing self-awareness and building self-confidence and self-esteem, to help young people move closer to the labour market toward careers that inspire them.
It was a truly wonderful programme. The 10 young people who registered and attended were inspiring, insightful and committed throughout the journey. Their engagement made every session feel purposeful and energising.
The sessions took place in the lovely modern St. Andrew’s Church in Waterloo, in a large, spacious room with majestic high ceilings, a grand piano, a private garden and ensuite kitchen — a calm and uplifting space that supported focus, inspiration and reflection.
Our graduation celebration was a fabulous, heartfelt momentous event. Each young person received a certificate and a special lavish gift they were allowed to choose themselves to reflect their achievement and growth. The event was catered for by Planetorganic.me led by the impressive 12-year-old chef Sian Atkins-Moore, supported by her mum, Chane, & her grandmother — me, Helen 😉. The delicious all-organic dishes included whole dressed baked salmon… Creole tofu… sticky BBQ chicken… and an array of nutritious sides and sweet treats to delight all palates… meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. The event was experienced as an impassioned family endeavour adding a personal, celebratory touch to the occasion.
Following the success of Aspire to Achieve, HABITS was contracted to deliver another 10-week programme for Streatham Youth Community Trust — supporting more young people looking for guidance & support in career development and emotional wellbeing.
This experience has been a significant part of HABITS’ journey, reinforcing our commitment to making mindfulness and psychotherapeutic support accessible and relevant to all… not least our younger members of the community. We look forward to delivering more programmes like this in the future — empowering young people to navigate life with confidence, resilience, self-belief and success.
